Special Commissions

Like what you see?

Card and BoxHello stampers, today I can share with you two special commissions that I’ve worked on over the summer … I can share them now because I know they have both been delivered, so I’ve no chance of spoiling the surprise!

The first one has a few Stampin’ Up! items, but the main focus stamps had to be Egyptian themed – yes Egyptian! That’s because the lady who was receiving this is an avid lover of all things ancient Egyptian. I had the added pressure of having made her husband a Roman themed card a few years ago, and she wanted something that would be equal or better – her husband’s card is still on display, so I had a lot to live up to! Because of the size I decided a box was the way to go, this is the box lid and you can see the front of the card peeping out.

Door frontSo this is what I came up with … I went for doors opening into a palace and the Hardwood stampset was perfect for this.

Then as you lift the bar up you open up a 3 tiered card leading you down to the throne room. I used the Bordering Blooms stampset to create the garland decoration up the wall.

I was really pleased with how it turned out, but I’ve yet to hear whether it met with approval and beat my previous Roman card!

The base card stock is Sahara Sand (of course!) and I used the Gold Foil sheets to give it really rich embellishments. And to hold it all together and enable the folding mechanism … our Gold Watercolour Wonder Washi Tape! Here are the final two photo’s to show you what it looks like opened fully out.

It was so large my photo booth background wouldn’t fit – so my hubby had to lie on the floor to take this one!

Close upMy second commission was for a friend from work whose sister loves fuchsias – I know, nothing simple for me eh!

This one is pretty much entirely Stampin’ Up! (apart from the feather) and I got to try out the brilliant new star mask – again I was really chuffed with how this turned out and apparently it went down well too, which is always nice to hear!

I made a box for this card too as it was travelling by air – the DSC_0008box got a little squashed but it did its job and protected the card inside which was good.

The colour combination is Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry with Pear Pizzazz leaves and Gold Foil stars.

I used the Gold metalic ink pads and then heat embossed it clear to protect the gold ink.

I used the Memorable Moments stampset to get the gorgeous Happy 50th Birthday and my trusty Stampa-ma-jig came out again to ensure it was all lined up – although the slanted font means you can stamp it freehand if you like and it still looks good – but I wanted the 5, 0 and th to line up and they came out spot on!

I hope you’ve liked seeing some of the things I get asked to make and it’s certainly different to my normal class creations – although I’ve switched off comments, I would love to hear what you think via my email or Facebook page www.facebook.com/QueenPipCards.
