Can Creativity Make You Happy?

Like what you see?

WOW, that’s a big question – Can Creativity Make You Happy? One of those questions that comes up a lot when people throw around the words mindful and relaxing. The answer is, not on its own no. I’m not a doctor and I don’t believe card making or any creative outlet should be used instead of going to seek medical advice for something like anxiety or depression.

But in a social setting or for your own relaxation – yes I believe it makes me happy. You have to agree these guys look pretty happy with their creations after a recent Kit workshop I held for them!

I can tell you that card making makes me feel happy and more relaxed and helps me unwind. Especially when I was in a busy, full on, Corporate job. Card making was my escape!

I like to say that card making gives you a double dip of happy!

Double Dip of Happy

You get a moment of relaxation & happiness when you make a card. Especially when doing something like colouring with Stampin’ Blends. It is a fact that being creative does release certain chemicals in your brain that make you feel better. (Ref 1.)

The second dip of happiness comes when you send your card to someone special. You’re giving a part of yourself to that person – the little bit of your creativity you used to make the card. The time you spent making the card was a precious gift in this crazy busy world. And you give that gift to a friend or relation.

That’s when I think being creative does make you happy – twice!

I would like to clearly state that it is not something to replace any medical solution or therapy. But from my own personal experience, being creative makes me a happier person.

The theory of cognition postulates that being creative is actually a basis for human life. Basically, being creative is pretty important!
